One of my colleagues is colour blind. When talking about how this effects their life I was surprised to discovered that one of the biggest difficulties is colour coordination while clothes shopping.
This started a discussion around technology and how it could help. An app on your phone to compare colours was agreed to be the next twitter (are there 200 million colour blind people in the world) *
However, a thought came to me that this would be a great thing for Google Glasses. Using the camera colours could be identified and the read out would inform the wearer what colour they were looking at. Apps already exist, such as the Dulux Colour Picker, which can pick out colours from photos.
An interesting application for a new technology. Which also shows that some things are solutions just looking for the right problem.
* it is estimated there are 300 million people in the world who are colour blind. So it could indeed be the next twitter!
To improve the speed and quality of my writing I decided it was time to join a micro blogging site. Jotting down some thoughts, in a coherent way, that would form an argument or thesis.
So I do my research and the decision falls on two choices: tumblr or posterous. I knew of the latter as a Blogger and fellow nerd that I follow, or in the past they would call stalk, was a keen user. For this reason my decision was made and I was about to sign up.
Then I read that the service is about to close. The date chosen is the 30th April. As traditionally when starting a blog there is usually 4 months between posts, this news wasn’t good for my choice. So now I find myself on tumblr.
When reading about Posterous I was surprised to learn that twitter bought over the company around a year ago. It seems strange that not long after the micro blogging service bought the slightly less micro blogging service that they should shut it down. Either they were after some technology or IP, or it was just a poor decision.
